The 2023/2024 season has been one of the most successful in recent memory for the Great Southern Swimming Club. There were over 100 active members and 40 plus swimmers.
It was great to see so many swimmers in the water, supported by their families and our two coaches, Rob Kidman and Joy Brown. Our Masters team, who are self-coached, are a small but dedicated group of swimmers who have had success in the water at many events over the year.
2023 Great Southern Carnival
The Great Southern Swimming Club held another carnival at the Strathalbyn Pool. In 2023, the weather wasn’t as bad as previous years but was certainly on the chilly side! This did not stop the 103 attendees from having a great day.
Great Southern Swimming Club on the Road!
Over the 2023/24 season, the Great Southern Swimming Club was represented at 39 meets/carnivals including 2 interstate competitions. We also have 7 swimmers heading to Darwin in September 2024 to compete in the 2024 Country Swimming Championships.
Swimmer Representation and Achievements
SA State Age Long Course Championships
Isabelle Day also competed in the 2024 SA State Long Course Championships. Qualifying for 11 events, Isabelle came home with a swag of medals. She continues to be a leader and inspiration for other swimmers at our club and beyond.
SAPSASA
We had 13 of our swimmers compete for the Southern Fleurieu SAPSASA district who came home with the flag in 2024. This is the first time that the Southern Fleurieu area has won the flag in 15 years!
School Sports Championships
One of our swimmers, Isabelle Day, got selected for 6 individual events, 2 relays and to be co-captain of the SA swim team at the School sports championships in the Gold Coast in 2024. Isabelle made several finals and did all of SA proud.
2024 SA Country Championships
At the 2024 SA Country Championships in Nurioopta, our swimmers brought home 4 golds, 3 silvers and 3 bronzes. Our small team of 11 finished 12th out of 29 teams. We also had 5 super fish attend, who brought home 6 first places.

During the 2023/24 swimming season we had 20 swimmers that achieved either blue, bronze or gold swimming standards. That is 40% of our 50 competitive swimmers older enough to participate in the program. Punching well above our weight for a country club!

Our swimmers scored extremely high points over the season and brought home some serious bling!
